A new business at Palisades Mall is offering mystery and suspense in place of traditional wares.
The Mystery Room is a sparsely decorated store with no merchandise for sale. Instead, customers can get a somewhat stress-inducing experience behind the doors of various themed rooms.
Participants have about 45 minutes to find their way out of the rooms, finding clues along the way. The odds of making it out in a timely manner aren't always in customers' favor.
A little more than half of people "win" in the Alcatraz room and about 17 percent win in the Sports room.
"We wanted to challenge ourselves and see if we could meet the challenge," said one customer.
Customers also said the experience is about putting down their cellphones and working with other people toward a common goal.
