Murder-suicide rocks Ramapo
Two people are dead after a murder-suicide shooting in the Wesley Hills section of Ramapo Thursday.
Police say that John Lord, 65, called 911 around 7 a.m. and told police that he had shot his wife Irene, 63, inside the bedroom on Deerwood Road.
When police arrived, they saw John exit out onto the back deck. As the officers approached, they heard a shot, then another, and then saw John Lord stumble into a doorway, leading from the deck.
Efforts to save Lord failed, and he was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital. Police then found Irene's body in the couple's bedroom. Both had gunshot wounds to the head. Police say that the gun that was used belonged to Irene Lord.
Investigators say they are looking into the couple's history, but there wasn't a history of domestic violence. They are also checking into health and financial issues, but there is no obvious cause for the violence.
