Two multivehicle accidents on the northbound side of Interstate 95 in New Rochelle slowed traffic for hours this morning.
Police say two separate crashes involving three tractor-trailers, a state trooper and a BMW occurred at around 2:30 a.m. just south of Exit 16 near Cedar Street.
No serious injuries have been reported. The state trooper involved could be seen in an ambulance, but was moving on his own.
Two lanes of traffic were closed for much of the morning commute as a crane had to be brought in to clear the tractor-trailers. Traffic was backed up for miles.
One of the two closed lanes reopened at about 8:45 a.m. as workers off-loaded the one truck still on the scene. Fresh vegetables and other food items were taken off before moving the truck to prevent the cargo from spilling out.
There is no word yet on what caused the accident. Police are still putting their investigation together, but it is possible slick roads may have been a factor.
