A 46-year-old woman is dead after the MTA said she went into cardiac arrest while riding an uptown 5 train on Saturday.
The train kept running before employees got her help in Van Nest.
An MTA spokesperson told News 12 other passengers alerted the train crew about the woman and the “most effective way to get assistance to the sick passenger was to operate the train nonstop to rapidly arrive at [the] East 180 Street station.”
The MTA did not specify when or where other passengers alerted the train crew, how many stations the train skipped, or the exact reason why the train stopped at that particular station.
The spokesperson said first responders arrived at the station and performed CPR.
The woman was transported to a local hospital where she died.
Sources told News 12 the woman was homeless.
As of Sunday evening, officials had not released her name.
