Mt. Vernon uses art to curb gang violence
The Mount Vernon Youth Bureau staged a play Thursday to educate children and teens about gang violence.
The play called "The Meeting," which was performed at the Dole Center, shows what might have happened if civil rights leaders Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. met to discuss some tough issues.
"Our young people need the skills to resolve conflicts on their own, talk and discuss things, as opposed to using violent tactics to solve problems," says Damia Harris, of the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau.
City leaders say they hope the play will encourage young people to shun gang violence.
