Mount Vernon Mayor Ernest Davis organized a town meeting Tuesday after a rash of violence has shaken the community.

Concerned residents didn't leave an empty seat at Macedonia Baptist Church on South 9th Avenue for the Save Our Children rally. With police and community leaders present, residents presented ways to make the streets safer.

Police plan to put additional officers on the streets. School and city leaders said they'll work together to create more opportunities for young people.

Three young men were shot last week in separate incidents. Two of them, 17-year-old Steven Langley and 20-year-old Reginald Rogers, were killed while another, 17-year-old Thaddeus Brown, survived. A bomb threat was also called in at Mount Vernon High School Monday.
