Police are investigating the shooting death of a 24-year-old man on the streets of Mount Vernon Friday night.
Police say they received several frantic 911 calls around 6 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, they say they found the man with one or two gunshot wounds to his abdomen lying on South Seventh Avenue.
Police say after the shots rang out, the fatally wounded victim, who was identified as Christopher Dillon, of the Bronx, stumbled up the block and collapsed in the middle of the street.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died.
Mt. Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong says his officers will work nonstop on the case until someone is apprehended. Police say they have an idea of whom they are looking for, but would not release a description. They also say it?s too early in the case to identify a motive.
Chong is urging residents who have information about the shooting to come forward.
According to authorities, Dillon?s shooting was not a random act of violence, and that the victim and the gunman most likely knew each other.
Dillon?s murder is the sixth homicide so far this year in Mount Vernon.
