Mt. Vernon mayor-elect vows to end fraud probe
Mount Vernon Mayor-elect Clinton Young is vowing to end an independent fraud investigation started by outgoing Mayor Ernie Davis.
Attorney Ravi Batra was hired by Davis to oversee the investigation. Batra says even though Davis lost the general election last week, he is not backing down on the independent fraud investigation the two launched before Election Day.
Batra issued two separate batches of subpoenas for the probe. One batch targets the Urban Renewal Agency and the county?s solid waste commission. The second batch was focused on four of the five City Council members, the Corporation Counsel and the Mount Vernon comptroller.
Many of those subpoenaed told News 12 Westchester they will not comply with Batra?s orders to produce financial documents by Tuesday.
Young says he plans on bringing in his own independent auditors to investigate. Young claims Batra?s actions are nothing more than a failed publicity stunt designed to help Davis win re-election.
