A Mt. Vernon couple is outraged at the city?s police department because they say officers trashed their home during a raid.

The McCleans say the police were searching for items they don?t own, namely guns. Susan McClean says she and her husband were awoken by a loud explosion in their home around 6 a.m. and then saw officers rush in.

The McCleans say they thought it was a massive home invasion and didn?t know it was police who stormed in until they were in handcuffs. They say the police broke through three locked doors, wrecked dressers and threw a type of smoke device into the house.

Mt. Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong says the raid was part of an active investigation.

The couple says police did eventually produce a search warrant listing the weapons they were looking for, but say they do not own them.

Police say they believe the weapons belong to the couple?s two sons. The McCleans say that their 17-year-old son witnessed a shooting in March and has been routinely harassed by police since. The two brothers were taken into custody, but released hours later without being charged.

The family is questioning the department's actions and has consulted a lawyer in the matter.
