Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis brought city, county and state leaders together Wednesday to announce a joint effort to curb gang violence.

Davis was flanked by state criminal justice officials, Westchester District Attorney Janet Difiore and Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong during the announcement. They spoke about a joint effort to protect the city and stop the recent wave of violence.

The announcement came on the same day Davis? own grandson was arrested for a violent crime. Police say 24-year-old Daniel Davis tried to rob a man with a knife and then attempted to flee from police in a cab. ?He was the son I never had, but something has gone wrong and we are trying to help him correct it," Davis said.

The Mount Vernon April crime wave saw the deaths of two young men within days of each other. So far, no arrests have been made in those cases. However, Commissioner Chong said that will change. ?Whether it?s this week, next week?someone will be arrested for these crimes,? said Chong.
