Mt. Kisco police remember baby April Hope
One year after little baby April Hope was found dead among used tires and trash in a Mount Kisco dump, police honored her memory at Mass Tuesday.
Police say they are no closer to finding the parents of April Hope, nor do they know if she was stillborn or killed after birth. If she was born alive, police say her death was avoidable because of the New York safe haven law. The safe haven law allows parents of unwanted infants to drop them off at hospitals or police stations within five days of their birth without questions or legal consequence.
The memory of discovering the baby girl in the dump still haunts police. One officer said the girl will never be forgotten, offering, "She has a family - we are her immediate family."
Anyone with information regarding the identity of baby April Hope's parents is asked to call the detectives unit of the Mount Kisco Police Department at (914) 666-3855.
