A suspect who police say killed one man and injured another in a late-night shooting in Sleepy Hollow was formally charged Wednesday.
The courtroom was intense, and police officers had to remove several of the victim's family from the gallery as they objected to the $500,000 bail the alleged shooter was given.
Emmanuel Valentin Perez, a student at Mount Vernon High School, pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree manslaughter.
The 18-year-old is accused of shooting 32-year-old Manuel Salazar at Margotta Courts Park on Valley Street in the village around 9:30 p.m. Monday.
Salazar leaves behind two children, ages 1 and 3.
"We ain't get no justice today. You know they set the bail at $500,000, which I don't approve of. When you kill somebody, $500,000 I don't think is worth a life," said Salazar's cousin, Luis Lopez.
A second victim was shot but has since recovered.
Perez is being held at the Westchester County Jail and is due back in court on July 12.
