A stash of guns, ammunition and drugs are off the streets Thursday after Mount Vernon police busted two men they say were operating a weapons trafficking ring out of their home.
Mount Vernon police say they have been waiting more than four months to arrest Jose Tico Rodriguez. They say he had sold drugs to undercover cops numerous times. But when police searched his apartment on South Sixth Avenue Wednesday, they say they found more than just drugs. Police uncovered weapons, almost $5,000 in cash, bulletproof vests and two ounces of cocaine, which would sell for more than $2,000 on the streets. Police arrested Rodriguez getting off a bus in the Bronx.
While completing the search of Rodriguez's place, police found a stolen gun in another room in the house, which belonged to Auphy Dixon. Both Rodriguez and Dixon were arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court Thursday. Dixon faces up to four years in prison and Rodriguez faces 20 years.
