Coronavirus testing continues in Mount Vernon, but without needing an appointment as of Tuesday.
Nearly 1,000 people have visited the walk-thru clinic at the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Center, and about 16% have tested positive.
Judith Watson, CEO of the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Center, says the majority of people in the community impacted by COVID-19, "are from African decent and Latin…"
Watson adds, "We feel strongly the residents of Mount Vernon, who are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, should have testing service…so we can all be safe."
Testing at the locations was initially by appointment only, but now they are accepting walk-ins.
Watson says COVID-19 testing is a new mandate for the center, and that, " It's my goal to get every tested who would like to be tested."
Officials at the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Center say they’ll remain open for as long as they are needed.
