Police say a Mount Vernon man was shot and killed Wednesday night, marking the city's third slaying in 2009.
According to Mount Vernon police officials, the shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. on East Prospect Avenue. Nassan Yitzhak Benisrael, 31, died about two hours later at Mount Vernon Hospital.
An eyewitness of the incident says he saw a car run over Benisrael after he was gunned down.
Police say they found 18 bags of marijuana and $250 on Benisrael?s body. They are probing a possible drug-related link to the shooting.
However, Eric Conn, the victim?s friend, says he does not know anything about Benisrael dealing drugs.
