Mount Vernon crash/shooting victims identified
The two victims of Wednesday morning's fatal crash and shooting in Mount Vernon have been identified.
Police say the driver of the car was Allashun Clay, 27, of Manhattan. The passenger has been identified as Kevin Shaw, 26, of the Bronx.
The two men died when their convertible flipped over in Mount Vernon yesterday. Both had also suffered gunshot wounds, according to police.
Police say the crash happened at around 5 a.m. in the middle of the intersection at East Third Street and Warwick Avenue. They say Clay was driving in a BMW convertible, with the top down, and was speeding down East Third Street when he slammed into a parked black SUV and flipped several times.
Pierre Rene, of Mount Vernon, says he was with the two friends, partying at a Mount Vernon strip club in the hours before they died.
Police are awaiting more tests results, but a preliminary examination doesn't indicate whether the gunshots or the crash killed the men.
Shaw was an assistant basketball coach at Concordia College in Bronxville during the 2010-2011 season.
No motive for the shootings has been released. No arrests have been made.
