The Mount Vernon community came together Thursday night to honor and remember the life of firefighter Lamont "Wise" Killian.
Killian passed away last Monday due to heart-related issues, according to fire officials.
Killian, 51, had been off duty since 2019 after collapsing while responding to a fire. He suffered a heart attack, making him unable to return to work since.
At his wake, Killian's fellow firefighters shared the kind of service member and person Killian was.
"He showed us his courage daily, his laughter, his affection," said Mount Vernon firefighter Damon Perry. "He's definitely a person who will truly be missed."
"He's one of my best friends, I enjoyed him being around me, he kept you going, he kept you sharp... a beautiful person, a beautiful brother," said Mount Vernon firefighter Auphy Dixon.
Killian's funeral service is on Friday. The viewing will start at 10 a.m., with the service beginning at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church.
