Dozens gathered in front of Mount Vernon City Hall Tuesday as part of Police Week to recognize and celebrate men and women in blue.
The ceremony was a way for community members to thank the officers who have pledged to serve and protect.
There was a moment of silence to honor four Mount Vernon police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their community.
Several officers moved up the ranks during the ceremony, including 28-year veteran Michael Goldman, who is now a deputy chief. Charlotte Neal-Young was also promoted from detective to sergeant.
Police Commissioner Terrence Raynor says the first of several informational summits is scheduled for later this month for community members to meet with officers to discuss their concerns.
