A 92-year-old died following a collision in Ramapo Tuesday morning between a dump truck transporting a bucket loader and a Hyundai Sonata.
Ramapo police say the incident happened around 10:15 am at the intersection of Route 202 and Mayer Drive. The dump truck was traveling eastbound toward the intersection where the car was waiting to make a left turn to travel west. The result was a T-bone collision.
Lt. Blaine Howell said speed is not believed to have been a factor.
“The car approached the intersection of 202, slowed down and then proceeded to start to make a left-hand turn in front of the truck. [Witnesses] said the truck tried to avoid the car and was unable to do so."
The driver, a Monebello resident, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital and pronounced dead. His identity wasn’t immediately made available.
The driver of the dump truck was not injured, and Howell said he was “cooperative with the investigation.”
The roads were temporarily closed as police investigated the scene.
