Mom of boy tied to bush says she was unfairly targeted
The Spring Valley mother who was arrested Tuesday for tying her 4-year-old son to a bush says she was unfairly targeted by the police.
Mery Quinde-Castro, an Ecuadorean national, insists she never abused, abandoned or neglected her son, Ramsay.
"I don't know why they are commenting, all of that on Facebook, that I am a bad mom, because they don't really find out what happened," she says.
The 22-year-old single mom was arrested Tuesday after someone called police when they spotted Ramsay tied to a bush outside the Spring Valley apartment where Quinde-Castro was working as a nanny.
Quinde-Castro says that she was in and out of the house taking out garbage, and her son insisted on staying outside so he could play video games on her cellphone.
She says she tied him to the tree with his backpack for just a few minutes, and that she kept an eye on him from inside the house.
Quinde-Castro says it's unfair that a mom struggling to raise her child alone is penalized for caring for her son the best she knows how.
