Mom charged after allegedly leaving baby in car
Police say a Yorktown mother has been charged with child endangerment after allegedly leaving her 4-month-old son inside a car while she went shopping Monday.
Police say 34-year-old Jennifer Reikert left her baby locked in the car while she shopped inside a toy store on Bank Road. Reikert, who is the director of marketing and communications at Pace Law School, spoke with News 12, but did not want to appear on camera. The mother of three says she accidentally left her baby in the car for 10 minutes, but when she realized her mistake, a fellow shopper had already called the police.
Police say the baby was at danger because the temperature was in the 70s and the windows of the car were rolled up. Reikert was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, though the baby boy was fine.
