As the number of COVID-19 deaths decline, Gov. Andrew Cuomo says many businesses in the Hudson Valley region are on track to start Phase 1 reopening by next week.
Spectrum Designs in Pleasantville is a nonprofit company geared towards employing individuals with special needs. It recently expanded from Long Island to Westchester, breaking ground on the new location and completing 95% of demolition just a few months ago.
However, when the business closings began in March due to COVID-19, the company's plans were brought to a halt.
"We're behind budget and we're behind on time and it's taking its toll on us," said Jeff Solomon, of Spectrum Designs.
Businesses like Spectrum Designs would be able to reopen only once the area has entered Phase 1 reopening. According to Gov. Cuomo, the mid-Hudson Valley region may reach that goal by next week.
"Long Island and mid-Hudson region…if the number of deaths continues to decline the way it has, and they get their tracing online," said Gov. Cuomo.
As soon as the area enters Phase 1, Spectrum Designs says it will be ready to hit the ground running.
"All of our permits are ready to go, the town is ready for us to go once we get the word….everybody's back on as fast as possible because now we have time to make up," said Solomon.
Heading into Phase 1 is also welcome news for the other businesses that fall under that category, such as retail curbside pickup, agriculture, manufacturing and wholesale trade.
