A Middletown High School math teacher was suspended with pay Thursday following his arrest on child endangerment charges.
Jonathan Castell, 45, was arrested Tuesday after traveling to New York City to allegedly meet with a person who he believed was a 15-year-old girl. The meet-up turned out to be a trap set up on social media by an activist.
Middletown parents said they were outraged to learn that the district did not take immediate action against Castell after his arrest. But only one parent showed up to a school board meeting Thursday night to hear what the district had to say about the allegedly lecherous teacher.
"That disturbs me," said Dorothy Jones. "It really does."
Jones also said she was shocked by the lack of parent turnout at the meeting. She said she has a 16-year-old daughter who's due to start her junior year.
"I don't want him breathing the same air as my kid," she said. "I don't think he should be around children at this point."
A court appearance for Castell was postponed until next week. He was scheduled to appear in court hours before Thursday's meeting.
