Midas in Naunet along with the Clarkstown Police Department hosted a free catalytic converter engraving and spray painting event on Monday.
Officials say this is a part of a larger effort nationwide by Midas to minimize the theft. Mechanics will etch a vehicle identification number onto the catalytic converter to help track and locate it. The Clarkstown Police Department says it only takes a person 2 to 3 minutes to climb under a car and steal a catalytic converter.
