Fans flocked to Citi Field today for the Mets' Opening Day matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday.
The Mets beat the Cardinals 9-4. Mets great Rusty Staub, who died this morning, was remembered at the game.
News 12’s Jamie Stuart was in the parking lot where the Tinelli family had the grill and the pizza oven cranking out food for hungry fans.
On the menu were hot dogs, hamburgers, hot wings, pizzas and sausage and peppers.
There was also plenty of optimism for the upcoming season among the Amazins’ faithful.
“Opening Day is great. It’s the start of a new season and I’m feeling it!” said one fan.
The Mets are now 37-20 all-time on Opening Day, which is the best record in baseball history.
