Commuters on Metro-North trains will be fined $50 if they refuse to wear a mask while traveling.

There was already a mask mandate statewide on public transportation, but Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order for the MTA to strengthen enforcement of the rule.

The MTA says that 90% of their riders are already wearing masks, but hope that this measure will push that percentage higher. They are striving to get everyone on their trains to wear face coverings while traveling.

The fine goes into effect starting Monday.

The fine will also apply to anyone who won't wear a face covering on New York City Transit and the Long Island Railroad.
