The Metropolitan Transit Authority has released a huge new plan to modernize its entire system, including Metro-North.

The transit authority put out a 20 year, $1.5 trillion needs assessment. The MTA says over the next two decades, it will have to confront aging infrastructure, climate change, and changing rider needs. It wants to keep the system alive another 100 years.

For the Metro-North that includes, replacing old infrastructure and upgrading power systems that contribute to delays, updating crumbling infrastructure leading to grand central to avoid shutting down service , adding more scheduled trains through Penn access and capacity improvements and making 95% of stations accessible by 2045.

The MTA says this plan will serve as a foundation in determining how to prioritize capital spending moving forward.
