The Jewish community in Nassau is standing up in solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attacks in France.
A memorial service took place at Temple Israel of Lawrence Friday night. Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum lit a candle in memory of the 17 victims who were killed by terrorists over the past three days in France.
French President Francois Hollande has characterized that attack as an act of anti-Semitism. Rabbi Rosenbaum says it's an unfortunate reminder for American Jews as well.
"In addition to being an attack against France and the Charlie Hebdo publication, it was undeniably an act of profound anti-Semitism and murder, not only against the Jewish community of Paris, but against the world."
Rabbi Rosenbaum says in light of the attacks, it is incumbent upon spiritual leaders of all faiths to come together and condemn hate of any kind.
