Officials have begun implementing new safety measures at the Orange County intersection where a driver's education car crashed claimed the lives of two high school students Tuesday.
Mourners have also built a memorial at the intersection of county routes 1A and 41 in Warwick.
Police say 16-year-old Goshen driver's education student Claudia Krebs collided with a tractor-trailer. Two teenage backseat passengers were killed and another was critically injured.
A new sign is adorned with caution flags about 200 yards from the intersection, where a police officer has been placed on guard.
Residents are calling for a new stop light, which one town official says could cost as much as $100,000. The town says it's made complaints about the intersection to the county for the past eight years.
In a letter obtained by News 12 from 2013, the county responded by saying that there wasn't a need for a light, and the town should attempt to cut down on speeding near the intersection.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the injured student, Lucas O'Connor. Residents say that they are horrified by the tragedy and that it's not the first crash in the area.
"The intersection has been horrible," says Lisa Trovato, of Warwick. "I ran down there several years ago and performed CPR on a man who was dead already, got hit by a car. He was on a motorcycle. So it needs to be changed."
The students were riding with Decat driving instructor Julio Anglero, who police say was also injured but is recovering at home. He declined to be interviewed by News 12.
Goshen High School officials say the driver's education program has been canceled in light of the tragedy.
Wake services for Antonio Baglivo will be held Saturday at the Donovan Funeral Home in Goshen from 4-7 p.m.
