While some spend the Fourth of July relaxing and having barbecues, some veterans take the time to reflect on their freedom.
Mount Vernon Mayor Clinton Young and war veterans sponsored a Fourth of July celebration at Saint Paul?s Church, located at 897 Columbus Ave. Throughout the day, there were readings of the Declaration of Independence, ceremonies and memorials. There were also tours of the historic cemetery located at the church.
Many veterans say they spend the holiday reflecting on their time abroad fighting for freedom and the flag. They also remember those still fighting overseas.
