? Development projects and Yonkers? budget crisis were key points of Mayor Phil Amicone?s (R-Yonkers) State of the City Address at City Hall Wednesday.
Amicone discussed the creation of a minor league ballpark, which is part of a $3.1 billion deal that would revitalize downtown. The mayor promised to balance the budget this year, especially for Yonkers schools where there is a $100 million deficit. Amicone?s solution is an education foundation that would raise private funds. The mayor also talked about creating a 311 system for residents to get basic information about city services and help.
Hoping to reach across party lines, he asked for the Democratic-led City Council to work with him to accomplish his goals. City Council President Chuck Lesnick agreed.
Amicone is halfway through his first four-year term as mayor of Westchester?s largest city. He previously served as the city?s deputy mayor.
