The Gov. Mario Cuomo Bridge will light up yellow and gold tonight to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Board members, donors and families from the Pediatric Cancer Foundation began the event with a walk across the bridge.
The Pediatric Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to eradicating childhood cancer, which remains the leading cause of death by disease for children under the age of 14.
The foundation is celebrating its 50th anniversary of being on the front lines in the fight against childhood cancer.
Organizers say the goal of today's walk is also to send a message to policy makers that 4% of federal funds for pediatric cancer research is not enough.
The bridge will also be lit up Sunday night at sunset.
