Man with cerebral palsy celebrates milestone birthday with family
It turned out to be very special day for one family celebrating a milestone they never thought they would see.
Michael Ruff celebrated his 30th birthday Saturday in Cortlandt Manor surrounded by family and friends. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was just a baby. The condition typically appears in early childhood.
Symptoms vary, but can include poor coordination, stiff or weak muscles and tremors. Additional problems could include impaired vision, hearing and speaking.
His father, Thomas Chadeayne, told News 12 that "every birthday Michael has is a gift."
The average life expectancy for cerebral palsy is on average anywhere from 30 to 70 years. Michael's neurologist says with his optimism and his family's determination, they expect him to be around for many years to come.
