Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong says 38-year-old Leton Burke was the target of a carefully planned plot. Police believe two masked gunmen were waiting for Burke outside of his apartment on the 600 Block of South Tenth Avenue.
Police say when Burke arrived, he was shot once in the head inside the apartment. A loaded handgun and five pounds of marijuana were found in the apartment, according to police.
Mount Vernon detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 914-665-2588.
The murder is second one this year in Mount Vernon.
