A man is in custody after allegedly pulling out a gun and taking off with a mother and a child in Peekskill Sunday.

Police say it all began just before 4 p.m. on Howard Street when police answered a domestic incident call at a house there.

They say the man - possibly armed with a handgun - left a house with the woman and a child.

Police later saw him walking on Howard Street and chased him on foot to Main Street where he was taken to custody.

The woman and child were found safe.

Peekskill's Mayor Andre Rainey issued a statement praising police and saying in part, "As the investigation unfolds, I trust justice will be served. My prayers to the children and family impacted."
