Man beaten to death outside Newburgh bar
Police in Newburgh are searching for the man who beat another man to death outside a bar.
The incident happened outside El Rey Del Pollo IV on Washington Street just after 4 a.m.
Police say the 40-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, was beaten to death with a metal pipe. They say that there were witnesses at the scene and that they are in the process of notifying the victim's family.
Both men are believed to have been inside the bar drinking before the fight. Other details are sparse. The case remains under investigation.
"It's a troubled bar, constant problems every weekend," says local landlord Rich Alfano.
Newburgh Mayor Judy Kennedy says although the beating death is Newburgh's first murder of the year, one is too many. She wants county leaders to pass a law that seeks to close all bars by 2 a.m. Kennedy believes that the current time of 4 a.m. is too late.
