A Bronx cabbie is recovering after police say a customer turned on him, stabbing the driver before stealing money.
Mark Jurgins allegedly stabbed Regino Valerio, who works for Apollo car service, twice in the stomach Thursday morning before making off with $60. Fellow cab driver Jose Guaba Estrella heard the news over the dispatch radio and rushed to his friend's side.
According to Estrella, his friend was bleeding and Jurgins was fleeing on foot. Police say Jurgins ran into a nearby building on Bristow Street, where police caught him trying to break into someone's apartment.
Estrella says the crime highlights just how dangerous a job driving a cab really is. He says cabbies are being targeted while putting their lives on the line to make a living.
