A man who police say robbed a bank in Putnam County Tuesday was in custody less than an hour later in Ardsley.
According to police, 36-year-old John McCaffrey, of Mahopac, walked into the Mahopac National Bank shortly after it opened at 9 a.m. Police say McCaffrey told a teller he had a gun and he left the bank with an unknown amount of cash. However, someone in the bank got the suspect?s license plate number and a description of his vehicle.
State police were in pursuit, when Greenburgh police joined in the chase and pulled over the vehicle on the Saw Mill River Parkway around 9:45 a.m. McCaffrey was taken into custody and the cash was recovered. Police say they did not find a gun.
