A Bronx man with ties to Westchester is behind bars after allegedly flashing a laser beam into the sky and distracting pilots flying commercial planes.
Frank Egan, 36, was arrested Tuesday. He is accused of shining a laser at multiple planes attempting to land at LaGuardia Airport.
Egan lives in the Tremont section of the Bronx at an apartment on Coddington Avenue. He works at Enchanted Flower Boutique in New Rochelle.
Police say Egan flashed the beams from his second-floor window, beginning at 8:05 p.m. Monday and lasting over an hour. Police say they found a laser inside Egan's apartment.
The laser came in contact with three commercial flights. The FAA advised incoming aircraft to avoid the area.
The NYPD launched a helicopter to find the source and also came in contact with the beam.
Authorities say three of the affected pilots reported pain or blindness after being struck in the eyes with the laser.
The flight personnel, including the two police officers that came in contact with the laser, were all treated at the hospital and released.
Egan's charges include felony assault. His next court appearance is set for Friday.
