Mamaroneck flood victims hit with shocking repair costs
As the flood waters dry from Friday, some Mamaroneck residents are learning there's a shocking hidden cost associated with recovery.
Electrical inspectors spent Sunday going door-to-door in buildings that were partially flooded a few days ago. One stop included the First Baptist Church, where water rose to the basement's ceiling. Inspectors told the pastor the breaker box and electrical wiring need to be replaced before the lights can come back on. The Reverend James Jackson says although his parish has been devastated by the flood and subsequent repair costs, he remains hopeful for the future.
Some homeowners are urging the village remedy the problem of rising flood waters to avoid future costly cleanups. The power was back on Sunday for the majority of homeowners.
