A building fire Friday night in Mamaroneck has displaced eight families just before the holidays.
Officials say the fire broke out shortly after 8 p.m. Friday in the four-story structure on Mount Pleasant Avenue.
All residents made it out safely, but the structure has been deemed unsafe, and officials say 25 people, including eight children, will not be able to return home for the holidays.
The Mamaroneck community is now coming together to help the families. More than $10,000 has already been collected, and the displaced residents have also received donations of toiletries, blow-up mattresses, blankets and Christmas toys.
The Red Cross is working with the residents who have been displaced.
Police say they are still investigating the cause of the fire.
