Mamaroneck begins massive cleanup efforts after flooding
Sunshine and warm temperatures prevailed Saturday, but residents and business owners in Mamaroneck had the hard work of cleaning up the mess left by Friday?s massive flooding.
Red Cross worker and firefighters went door to door in the hard hit village handing out disaster cleanup kits to residents. Friday's flood waters came rushing into neighborhoods fast and furious. The rains pumped almost seven feet of water into the basement of a home on Hillside Avenue. Many front lawns were scattered with debris as residents began the recovery efforts.
Many of businesses along Mamaroneck Avenue remained shut down Saturday. Storeowners worked furiously to pump out water from basements and assess the damage to supplies. Residents are still dealing with power outages. Con Ed officials say homeowners must get a licensed plumber and electrician to do a safety check first before power can be restored.
