Eastchester police are warning residents about a new scheme aimed at stealing personal information.
The scheme is called mailbox fishing, and involves thieves getting into U.S. Postal Service mailboxes in the hope of taking outgoing mail with written checks.
Police say that once the thieves have the checks, they "wash" the information off the original checks and put in their own numbers to cash them.

Investigators have already arrested several people for the crime in Eastchester.
Eastchester police say to contact them if residents see anyone acting suspicious near a U.S. Postal Service mailbox.
