Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul met with stakeholders to discuss solutions to gun violence, including a new push to give at-risk youth summer jobs.
Hochul says they are going to target youth by ZIP code.
Beginning immediately, 833 jobs will be available for at-risk youth in 10 ZIP codes in Mount Vernon, Spring Valley and Yonkers.
Hochul also announced funding to curb substance abuse and address mental health.
It's a new approach that she says is taking what they learned during the coronavirus pandemic and apply those same data-based approaches to the gun violence issue.
She echoed the governor's sentiment that gun violence is a pandemic.
Over the weekend, gun violence took the life of an 18-year-old. It's the second fatal shooting in the last month to happen in Westchester's largest city.
