Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin hosted a roundtable discussion in Yonkers on Monday to address a rise in violence in New York.

Both Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard attended the event.

Benjamin is traveling the state to hear ideas from community members about addressing the rise in violence - specifically gun violence.

Some ideas raised at the roundtable were finding jobs for kids, reviewing grant money in communities that need it most and helping with mental health. Another idea was using technology to track guns coming into the state.

"Let's brainstorm. Let's think about all the possible options," said Benjamin. "Obviously, I'm not trying to infringe on Second Amendment rights, but let's look at what some of the key things are because there are legal guns that come into our state that aren't manufactured here."

Benjamin says a lot of what's being discussed to address gun violence also applies to violence in general.
