A lockout order has been lifted at South Middle School in Newburgh after an earlier shootout just blocks away from the building.
Authorities say at least two shots were fired Friday morning on Renwick Street in the City of Newburgh while kids were in class at South Middle School down the block.
The latest gun violence put the school on a temporary lockout, which was lifted before the end of the school day.
Parents say the ongoing shootings since last summer in the crime-plagued city are a serious concern.
This is the second report of shots fired near a Newburgh school in two weeks.
Last week, a 27-year-old man was shot inside a deli not far from Horizons on Hudson Elementary School. Student activities outdoors were moved inside that day as a result.
A gunman was caught on surveillance video last November opening fire near a Newburgh city school bus letting off kids.
City of Newburgh police are investigating this latest incident. They say no one was hurt.
