Lockdown at Stewart Air National Guard Base lifted
The Stewart Air National Guard Base was put on lockdown Wednesday after a man threatened to hurt law enforcement officers.
Officials from the 105th Airlift Wing say that at around 9 a.m., an unidentified man approached the front gate carrying a bag and stated he was looking to do harm to law enforcement personnel. The man was taken into custody and was transported to a hospital for observation.
State police screened the individual's bag, and the lockdown was lifted before 12 p.m. Police have not released the name of the man in custody and have not said, what, if anything, was in the bag.
The base is the home of the 105th Airlift Wing and is part of a joint civil-military airport along with Stewart International Airport.
The operations department of Stewart International Airport says the civilian airport was not affected, and there was no disruption of service.
