Local lawmaker pumps better gas mileage standards
As prices at the pump continue to soar, one local lawmaker is fighting to make vehicles more fuel-efficient. Congressman John Hall (D-District 19) is joining other freshmen members of Congress in calling for better fuel-efficiency standards in the country. Citing an estimate from the Sierra Club, an environmental organization, Hall says improving automobile mileage to 40 miles per gallon could save more than 3 million barrels of oil every day.The thought of stretching a gallon of gas sounded good to customers at one Yorktown gas station. "I think that would be good because as we all know, gas prices are getting a little outrageous and I think everyone would benefit from that,? said Andi Coiro, of Yorktown.
