He lost his leg in a terror attack in Israel, but a local group is working to ensure that Asael Shabo becomes whole again.

"I want to do normal things, not with crutches, with a leg like a normal person," says 15-year-old Shabo. "I want to do triathlons and running." Shabo's leg was amputated after a gunman burst into his home in 2002. He also lost his mother and three brothers in the attack.

Members of Project Tikvot, which means hope in Hebrew, attended a brunch Sunday at Mamaroneck's Westchester Jewish Center in Shabo's honor. The teen also spoke at the event.

"We've seen his passion for sports and the fact that he went through the horror he went through and we thought ? we wanted to bring him here to the U.S.," says Shlomo Nimrodi, of Tikvot.

Tikvot brought Shabo to America to help him get an artificial leg. It's a dream Shabo doesn't plan to give up on. "I'm going to stay here until I get a leg, as long as it takes," Shabo says.

For the first time ever, Shabo also took part in a Little League game Sunday in New Rochelle. He threw out the first pitch.
