There could soon be a lighthouse shining in Piermont in honor of two people whose lives were cut short nearly five years ago on the Hudson River.

Bride-to-be Lindsey Stewart and best man Mark Lennon died two weeks before Stewart was supposed to get married in July 2013. The driver of the boat, Jojo John, was drunk and crashed into barges that were being used to build a new bridge. He was sentenced to two years.

The families have questioned if poor lighting on the barges contributed to the crash. Now, the hope is the lighthouse will help promote safe boating.

Piermont Mayor Bruce Tucker says the board voted unanimously this week to support the families' plan to build a lighthouse in their memory. The lighthouse would replace an old tower that needs updating.

The mayor says the lighthouse will be paid for by the Lindsey Stewart and Mark Lennon Memorial Fund.
